We offer a complete rebuild and/or upgrade service for your front wheel drive unit that is housed inside your R35 GT-R GR6 transmission. Each unit is configured to your specific need based on your application.

Most clients will only ever need a stage 1 build and it is what we recommend for almost every application. If you are considering a stage 2 option, please consult with our team to ensure you have all of the required supporting modifications and it is something that will benefit your application.

Included in the Stage 1 Service:

  • Pre-test preload of unit prior to disassembly

  • Complete cleaning of all components

  • Component Inspection and Measurement of critical wear items

  • New Dodson Motorsport Fluid

  • New Dodson Ball Retainer plate system to prevent possible lock up of unit

  • Testing of preload to Colab Garage spec (application specific)

  • Testing of electronic solenoid for proper functionality

As the R35 platform ages it is becoming more common to see your front wheel drive clutch assembly (commonly referred to as your ETS unit) requiring service. This is also a wear item that needs routine servicing when racing your vehicle in both road race as well as drag racing applications. With our years of experience on the GR6 transmission, we have found what works best for different applications when it comes to setting these units up for long life and reduced chances of damaging other critical parts within your transmission based on how your plan to use your car.

For most clients our stage 1 rebuild is all that you will ever need. This uses nearly all of the stock components with the exception of adding the Dodson Motorsport FWD Ball Retainer upgrade to ensure that the clutch ramping system doesn't experience a catastrophic failure requiring you to source a completely new unit. Our stage 1 unit is used at the highest level GT-R drag racing track events and has proven to provide the correct amount of preload to allow for a proper burnout while still transferring the correct amount of torque to the front axle for well over a season of use before requiring service.

We do offer stage 2 builds for the most demanding racing conditions, however this rebuild requires several supporting modifications to the rest of your FWD system on the car in order to support what the additional clutch pack(s) can send to the front axle without damaging those parts. Our stage 1 build can be compared to a fuse that will only transfer the amount of torque most front axle configurations will handle and will slip if any more torque is applied. Our stage 2 unit essentially eliminates this fuse and will provide quite a bit more torque to the front axle. We only recommend this upgrade to users that are doing no-prep racing at the highest level as well as certain road racing applications. Our pricing is based on having a usable core, with a clutch stack height that is within rebuild spec. If your unit is damaged or out of the serviceable limit, then additional cost to rebuild will apply.
